Four teams of artists from Mayaar Theatre Group of Bhopal School of Social Sciences, in collaboration with the Community Police wing of Madhya Pradesh Police, performed 500 street plays (nukkad natak) at different locations in Bhopal, India within 24 hours from 5.00 am on Oct 2, 2023, setting the world record of most street plays staged in a day by least number of teams. All four teams staged 125 street plays each. The marathon event held on the Gandhi Jayanti day was meant to raise social awareness for a violence-free society.
First history film in Malayalam shot in Europe
The first biblical history film in Malayalam to be shot in Europe is ‘Judas Iscariot in the Dark Trap’, written and directed by George Sundaramthara for Kaakko Films International, Ernakulam, Kerala. Making of the 32-minute-long film, shot entirely in Rome, Italy involving a team of 16 persons was completed on March 20, 2020.
Longest drama on stage
Mayaar Group of Bhopal School of Social Sciences (BSSS) College, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh staged the world’s longest drama, ‘Katha-E-Hind’ depicting the history of India continuously for 48 hours 29 minutes at the college auditorium from 12.47 pm on Feb 29, 2020 to 1.16 pm on March 2, 2020. A team of 60 students including 33 boys and 27 girls performed in it.
Film editor in most languages
Indian film editor A Sreekar Prasad holds the world record for editing films in most languages. He has edited films in 17 languages/dialects including English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Odia, Assamese, Bengali, Punjabi, Nepali, Marathi, Sinhalese, Karbi, Mishing, Bodo and Panchenpa. He has also won eight National Awards including a Special Jury Award for film editing – in various languages.
Most Singers Recording A Film Song (Malayalam)
The world’s largest group recording for a film song was accomplished by Ramanika Creations which organized the re-recording of a song for the upcoming Malayalam movie ‘Chalakudippuzhayorathu’ with more than 100 singers singing together the popular film song “Minnaminunge” at Chembai Memorial Govt Music College, Palakkad, Kerala, India on Jan 2, 2019.
First drama with animatronic real life characters live on stage
Marathi play Jungle Book the Treasure, written and directed Architect Preeti Mohan Chorghe and presented by Lakshmi Narayan Productions, is the first such large-scale theatre production with live performance of animatronic (robotic) real life characters, Eva the dinosaur (20 ft long) and Bubo the gorilla (6 ft tall), along with other artists. It was first staged at Vasudev Balwant Phadke Auditorium, Panvel, Maharashtra on Feb 23, 2019.
Most street plays staged within 24 hours
Most street plays (nukkad natak) staged in a day (24 hours) in the country was achieved by Mayaar Group of Bhopal School of Social Sciences (BSSS) College in association with Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) on March 4, 2019. A team of 17 artistes including 14 boys and three girls performed 151 street plays at different locations in and around Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh in 22:56 hours from 5.00 am on March 3, 2019 to 3.56 am the next day.
First film with all five members of a family in major roles of film making
Kannada film ‘Yaanaa’, to be released in July 2019, is the first feature film to have all five members of a family prominently involved in its making. Bengaluru-based filmmaker Vijayalakshmi Singh, (whose parents were from the film industry), is the director of the film while her husband Jai Jagadish is the presenter. Their three daughters Vaibhavi, Vainidhi and Vaisiri, also the third generation in the industry, feature in it as leading ladies, which also marks their debut in the Kannada film industry.
Shortest hero, director, writer and producer of films
Ajay Kumar (b August 31, 1976), popularly known as Guinness Pakru, is the shortest film actor in a lead role, script writer, director and producer in the world. The 2 ft 6 inch (76 cm) tall actor played the lead role in Malayalam feature film ‘Albhutha Dweep’ in 2005, scripted and directed ‘Kutteem Kolum’ (Malayalam) in 2013 and produced ‘Fancy Dress’ (Malayalam), to be released in July 2019.
First national level micro drama festival
The country’s first ever national level micro drama festival, ‘Thespis – The National Micro Drama Festival 2017’ was successfully organised by Delhi-based theatre group Vriksh The Theatre at Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, New Delhi on April 9, 2017. The festival brought on stage 28 micro dramas in different languages from various parts of India and abroad. The event concluded with presentation of awards to winning artistes and teams.
World’s longest non-stop concert
The world’s longest non-stop concert of Malayalam film songs by a single band was accomplished by Swaralaya Orchestra, Palakkad at Ahaliya Institute, Kanjikod, Palakkad, Kerala on Nov 1, 2017. The marathon singing performance with accompaniment of 10-piece orchestra started at 8.00 am and continued for over 15 hours.
World’s shortest film writer and director
Ajay Kumar, popularly known as Guinness Pakru, who wrote and directed the Malayalam film ‘Kutteem Kolum’, released on March 30, 2013, is the world’s shortest film writer and director. He is 2.7 ft (82.3 cm) tall. The film, produced by Ansar Vasco in collaboration with United Films, has Guinness Pakru, Sanusha, Suraaj Venjarammood, Sakthi and Tini Tom in the lead.
World’s longest biographical documentary
100 Years of Chrysostom, to be released in April 2018, is the longest biographical documentary in the world. Conceived and directed by acclaimed film director Blessy Ipe Thomas, the 48-hour long film documents the life and ministry of Most Rev Dr Philipose Mar Chrysostom, the senior-most Metropolitan Bishop of Marthoma Church and the longest serving bishop (more than 64 years) in the country, who turned 100 on April 27, 2017. Blessy and team travelled with the Metropolitan to various locations across the country to complete the mega project in two years. [The documentary consists of four segments: ‘100 Celebrities vs a Legend’ (chats with 100 celebrities), ‘Walking with Chrysostom’ (collection of 100 ministry speeches), ‘100 Years of Chrysostom’ (tracing the history of Christianity in Kerala and his family) and ‘Golden Words & Classic Lines’ (famous quotes and discussions with 100 artists).
