World’s first ‘Mahabharat’ sari
Handloom saree manufacturer and trader Biren Kumar Basak (b May 16, 1951) of Fulia Chatkatala, Nadia, West Bengal, India made a 5.5 m-long ‘Mahabharat Jamdani saree (sari)’ depicting on it 43 scenes from the epic Mahabharata on Sept 1, 2019. The unique Dhakai work, using tussar silk as warp and Bangalore mulberry silk as weft, took him eight months to complete.
