World’s highest motorable road
The 86 km long road passing through Umlingla Top at a height of over 19,300 feet in Ladakh region of Jammu & Kashmir, India is currently the highest motorable road in the world. Constructed under ‘Project Himank’ of the Border Roads Organisation, Ministry of Defence, Govt of India, the new strategic road connects Chisumle and Demchok villages situated near the Indo-China border. The construction, a task filled with life-threatening challenges, was completed by the end of October 2017.
